Overview

Committees play an important role in supporting the Board of Directors and strengthening community engagement. They help manage specific areas of association operations, review homeowner requests, and organize events or initiatives. Committee members are homeowner volunteers who bring their skills and perspectives to make the community better.

How Committees Work

Committees are established by the Board of Directors. Each committee operates under the authority of the Board and follows the community’s governing documents. While committees can make recommendations, all final decisions are approved by the Board.

Most committees consist of a small group of homeowners who meet as needed to review requests, plan events, or provide feedback on specific topics.

Common Types of Committees

Architectural Committee (ACC)
Reviews homeowner requests for exterior changes or additions to ensure compliance with the community’s design standards and CC&Rs. This committee helps preserve neighborhood appearance and property values.

Social Committee
Plans community events, social gatherings, and activities that build neighborhood connection and engagement. They often organize events like block parties, holiday gatherings, or seasonal festivals.

Landscape or Maintenance Committee
Assists in reviewing common area conditions, landscaping needs, or vendor performance. This committee provides feedback to the Board and management about ongoing maintenance priorities.

Covenant or Compliance Committee
Supports the violation review and appeals process when permitted by governing documents. Members review reported violations and ensure consistent, fair enforcement of community standards.

Finance or Budget Committee
Helps the Board review annual budgets, monitor financial reports, and make recommendations about reserves, investments, or cost savings.

Volunteering for a Committee

Homeowners are encouraged to volunteer for committees that match their interests or experience. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and make a positive impact in your community.

To volunteer:

  1. Contact the Board Team at board@yourhoahelp.com.

  2. Share your name, property address, and the committee you’re interested in joining.

  3. The Board will review your interest and confirm your appointment if there’s an opening.

Tips

  • Committee members serve at the discretion of the Board.

  • Decisions should always align with governing documents and association policy.

  • Committee recommendations are advisory unless specifically authorized by the Board.

  • Meeting notes and reports should be documented and shared for transparency.
